The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged more than 550 points, or two-point-two percent, to 24,465.
The S&P 500 slumped one-point-eight percent to just over 2,640.
The Nasdaq fell 1.7%, or 119 points, to 6,908.
South Korean stocks closed lower Tuesday following overnight losses on Wall Street.
The benchmark KOSPI fell 18 points, or almost zero-point-nine percent, to 2,082.
The tech-heavy KOSDAQ slumped one-point-six percent to 690-point-eight.
