Temples are mentioned in several ancient books such as Bhagavata Purana, Skanda Purana and Mahabharata.
According to the Bhagavata Purana, "there in Badrikashram, the personality of God (Vishnu), when incarnated into the sages Nar and Narayana, underwent a great atonement from time immemorial for the sake of all. all living entities".
Skanda Purana says that "there are several sacred temples in heaven, on earth, and in hell; but none like Badrinath".
The area around Badrinath is also honored in the Padma Purana with many spiritual treasures.
The Mahabharata venerates the holy place as a place that can save devotees who come near it, while in other holy places they have to perform religious ceremonies.
The temple is venerated in Nalayira Divya Prabandham, in the 11 hymns of the 7th and 9th century Vaishnava canon of Periazhwar and in the 13 hymns of Thirumangai Azhwar.
It is one of 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshiped as Badrinath. The temple is called Tiruvatariyaacciraamam in Tamil literature.
