capri beach - The Cage

Days long ago I danced among the trees.
Felt the wind in my hair,
Heard a song in the breeze,
Could taste the bouquet of springtime,
And swim bare in the sea.

In a twinkling of an eye,
Days turned to night,
Light turned to darkness,
And what was once my playground,
Became a shadow of ruin.

Cursed I was,
Condemned I remain,
Haunted by reflections of a life long ago.

Now but a phantom,
Peering at a future lost.

Remembrance of the dance now a dream,
The sweet bouquet of springtime became ash in my mouth.

Decaying I stand before you,
But a memory of the soul past,
Still searching for tranquillity,
For a sense of peace at last.
