Description

Well, does it? I'd imagine so. Oddly, whenever I occasionally bring up the topic of MKULTRA with real-life friends, I am invariably met with blank stares. Perhaps the topic is not very well known - actually, I'm not particularly sure if I know of it very well; I'm certainly not highly informed on the matter. I don't think I want to be. Not the sort of thing the CIA would be inclined to generously share out, I somehow feel. That's a shame. At least we've got this visual monstrosity in the meantime. Swings and roundabouts.

It features dialogue ("you see a piece of paper; you want to pick it up") from the materials used in the McGill Institute experiments, coyly attempting a real-time recreation of the 'psychic driving' theory, albeit in extrmely self-referential style. That's just some torture chamber evidence records in the background, behind all the jaws and surreal horror.

I would hope this version did not succeed, somehow, although it would amuse me heartily if it did. I have a curious mind like that. There were far worse prompting 'directives', according to my few, hard-gained sources. I probably shouldn't put those in here though.

The video is designed to unsettle, in a subtle way, and to mimic an altered consciousness nightmare, as hallucinogens or dissociatives might bring about.

If you can imagine a sinister, unscrupulous doctor rasping repeat instructions at a group of drugged-up test subjects in some isolated underground complex backroom then you have the right idea.

Quite campy. Horrifying also, perhaps, given that it's based on shadowed, apocryphally true events.

A special thank you to my hamster, Mr Nutkins, who was invaluable to the filming of this, and has now enjoyed his 1.5 seconds of glorious fame.
