The Nowhere Man

The Nowhere Man is an autobiographical portrait of a poet confronting the collapse of his own self-myth. All the exalted assumptions he carried about himself fall away, leaving him stripped to truth. In that reckoning, he finds a mirror in Alexander the Great—dying of malaria, bargaining desperately for two more months of life. The poet measures his own journey against that moment: when greatness, certainty, and ambition dissolve, and a man must face himself without illusion.
