Scaling is the procedure of removing plague and calculus from the teeth surface. these deposits are formed due to accumulation of food debris, saleva and bacteria. This can not be completly removed by normal day to day brushing. So we need professional help for its removed.
Scaling is recommended once in a year but in few cases of severity once in 6 months also can be done.

Generally the procedure is not painful. But slight bleeding may occur as the deposits cause gum inflammation and touching the gum with the instrument cause bleeding.
