I see you in my reflection,
Your smile mimicking mine,
Your eyes that gaze so lovingly,
Your face with its eternal shine.
I can smell the smell you left me,
It hangs still on my clothes,
It haunts my every conscious thought
And makes my being glow.

The barbs catch on the inside.
Every mile clicks as the ratchet cranks tighter.

Familiar voices drone out
From behind their fabric walls,
Raise their volume higher
To drive out the pain that calls.
Love songs make me think of you,
Sad songs make me cry,
Loud songs bring the sad songs back
No matter what I try.

Every note sticks as the screws go in deeper.

I reach into the glass,
Reach out to hold you tight,
Reach in to pull what’s hurting out
And end my desperate plight.
But it echoes in the emptiness,
Reverberates and grows,
Please come back and save me
From loneliness’ powerful blows.
