Description
The slaves from Africa
To America did go
To tend their fauna
And make their plants grow.
In large vessels
Sailing across the ocean
Swarthy men bore their hassles
With bitter emotion.
If they ailed
It was no plea
If they died
They were flung to sea.
In chains went they
Heavy chinking steel
These men were not clay
They had flesh and could feel.
They pained for the land
Lost home of free men
Would no more see the sand
Of the African den.
