i looked at me.
one long look.
one short look.
i looked again.
i thought I had thicker hair.
i ran my fingers through.
nope.
it feels different.
then I looked again.
i thought I was fairer.
i can see darkness.
in spots.
some browner.
some blacker.
creeping out of nowhere.
i could swear they weren't there.
even yesterday.
i turned just a bit.
enough to help the sun.
more light fell.
my face fell.
what ever happened to black hair?
it was almost shiny last week.
i did smile at myself.
now I see less black.
now I see opposites.
this isn't good.
i caught a breath.
held it close within.
trapping it.
not letting it go.
stay there bugger!
oxygenate me.
fill me with the breath of life.
refresh me.
my mind urged.
but mortal me.
i had to let it go.
then I looked again.
i didn't look 16 anymore.
from any angle.
only I didn't know.
till that moment.

just how did 30 years pass?
all in the front of the same mirror.
and I didn't know.

one day,
hopefully many years from now,
i know it will stop lying again.
