(A pre-birthday rant)

How should a person celebrate
A passing of a round date
The roaring twenties are no more
Flirty thirties nocking at the door
My fear of aging uncontrived
Life shifted into overdrive
So looking at the year that's past
Let's thumb through crop of recent masks
Supportive wife, a caring daughter
A bitch that blew all out of water
A vixen and a jilted lover
(that last one hurt but I'll recover)
I gave a try to being a muse
But my serendipity was left unused
Gave writing poetry a go
What comes of it.... well time will show
Took many trips to distant lands
Took risks and strove to make amends
Then trumpled over a heart or two
Was humbled - that was overdew
Became a high-school voluteer
Whew, that was one hell of a year

Yet as the day bears on at me
It's clear that 30 is a number
My age and my experience
Keep feeding mind's eternal hunger
And as the laugh-lines loose their charm
And memories become the greatest wealth
It's comforting to know that in the years to come
I shall remain myself
