Masha Danevasha - Museum Piece
17 Views • Jun 14, 2014
Description
(after Brodsky)
It was a beautiful piece to be admired from afar
Graceful lines and flawless surface
Attracting hungry eyes of the mob,
Sighs and lip smacking of the connoisseurs.
Traded down from one collector to another
Coveted, desired yet never loved
Because cold stone is not supposed to love back
And Galateas are rare in the modern world
So it was displayed in boudoirs
Where owners made their conquests
Under its proud unblinking gaze
Never betraying any doubt
To theory that stone hearts don’t break
And those occasional chips -
They only enhance the value
Then it was hidden out of site or sold
Once victory was final
And the conquer unfailingly found out who won the war
And it was purchased by those that needed to posses
Beauty
With no strings attached
Well, there collector, you have your prize
But beware before you sign the dotted line
This marble bleeds
