Gouda Moon - Harsh Farewell

He was gone long before he actually left
A planet we could see but in a different orbit
We were none the less bereft
Once again the family cleft
Once again we might be better for it

Once again this is goodbye
Filing past him with his other next of kin
Sentiment is vitrified
Once again my eyes are dry
Standing silent with my kids who didn't know him

Fair to say he wasn't there
Like the alpha wolf abandoning the litter
Once again just to be fair
I can't say he didn't care
But that's just me trying not to sound too bitter

So adios my dear old dad
You were always from a very different place
Here's to times we should have had
I wish somehow to be sad
I wish I could say goodbye with much more grace

The chance to reconcile is dead
I'm more sorry for my brother and my sister
Forget all that nonsense I just said
On your grave I will not tread
You did as well as any deadbeat drunken drifter
