Fallen Too Far - FreeFall

The mountain air feeds my starving lungs
As I stand with others, waiting
My legs feel weak and my hands are shaking
But I know what I must do

I take a step and a deep breath
Begin the quick ascent
Gulping and holding tight to his hand
Thoughts racing, reeling through my head

The edge is so near, but closer is my heart
To the edge of my mouth
As I see their waiting faces and hear his words
Why are you here, he asks
And I can't look at him as I respond
Whisper, If I don't fall, I'll never learn to stand

I turn around, my legs nothing under me
And begin to sob, my heart burned ragged
I call out for them to answer, and they do
But I'm not ready. Time is speeding past me
But I don't notice anything except the fear
Holding me close, suffocating me

Finally, I lean back and fall
Letting a scream erupt from my very core
As I collapse into the arms
Of the only One who can save me

I let it all go as the others hold me close
Letting their love wash over me
And letting the tears come, not in anguish
But in joy over the victory

The rest of the day is a blur
Compared to the blazing sky and a memory
Of the release of my fragile soul
Into the wild blue oblivion
