Dewald Viljoen - The Abyss

To the back of me is the Abyss
and my feet are already at the edge.
Suddenly the dark seems so inviting,
and I remember a time I was happy.

Now I only live in the past,
I stumble through the present.
I can see no future.
The sense my life once made,
is gone.

Dark dreams fill my sleep,
my emotions have lost all sensation,
I am all alone,
so alone...

My lifelines fall short at every cast.
I am drowning in a sea of dispair.
I do not want to fight anymore,
maybe all is lost after all...

If I must, then I shall
step back into the Abyss and let it be.
I was happy there once,
I can be happy there again.
