Detachment is the way to Renunciation

Description

Is renunciation necessary when one progresses on the spiritual path? Some spiritual masters advocate deep renunciation, that is, the absence of all action, living in seclusion - but that most certainly is not the solution. Renunciation does not mean to stop living or to live in isolation, physically away from the world. What renunciation implies is to be detached, dispassionate, with the realisation that we are not the body but the soul. The moment one is not pained by the loss of power, possesions or pleasure, that is renunciation. We can live a secluded life in a forest, but still be distracted by desires, attachments and thoughts. Or we can live in this world but remain dispassionate - untouched by gains or losses- this is true renunciation. Just like the lotus that beautifully blossoms without sinking in the waters around it, we too must live in this world but not sink in this world. To Renounce is to live in this world without attachments, cravings and desires.
