Description

Long Head of the Biceps Brachii need some love soooooo Barbell Curls & Presses w/135lb to the rescue. Straight bar allows hand to be more Supinated (palm up) than with an EZ-Curl bar. Supination IS the primary function of the Biceps Brachii. If you ain't doing Curls with a straight bar, you are missing out!! Bending the arm, flexing the elbow is a secondary function but, by finishing with a Press, l add the third function of the Biceps, Shoulder Joint Flexion, to the movement. Yes, since I am Pressing, l am losing tension from the Curl but, by Pressing after Curling, l am forcing the Long Head to work harder since the Short Head has about contracted as much as it can. If you know your anatomy, you can do something similar with the Triceps Brachii as well. What simple thing could l have done to improve this?? Put the thumb on the same side as the fingers. Remember, the body 'knows' a Neutral position (aka Hammer Grip) is strongest, so even with a barbell, the palms try to 'turn away' from the bar. Thumbs on the same side AND hands spaced a bit wider, outside of shoulders will greatly increase your amount of Supination leading to a great contraction and you ain't even lifted the weight yet. Remember, training for activation and slinging weight around are two very different things at times...
