Boys Talk - MATHEW STREET

A tribute to John Lennon and The Beatles written by Chris Buckley and Mike Meade.

Being big Beatles fans, inspired by a poster of John Lennon with his trademark Rickenbacker guitar, Mike and I had a ‘we should write a John Lennon song’ moment. Soon enough the idea of a fans’ pilgrimage to Liverpool emerged, and 'Mathew Street’, home of The Cavern and Mecca for Beatle fans, came to life...

Recorded on 8-track in a little studio in Woking, friend Pat Acres joined us, adding some guitar riffs and a neat solo. We now had a Beatles tribute song in the bag - one that could be sung on visits to Liverpool!

When written the internet didn't exist, there being no footage, I've put together a collage of photos, focusing on the idea of fans visiting Beatle places, the vibrancy of Beatle Liverpool, the wonderful Mathew Street Festival, whilst giving a flavour of the essence of Lennon and the Beatles, telling the story and giving people an idea of what the fuss was all about.
