Description

Bleeding or spotting is common during IVF treatment and can occur at several stages:
Ovarian stimulation
Fertility medication can cause light bleeding or spotting as hormone levels change.
Egg retrieval
A needle and catheter are used to collect eggs from the uterus, which can cause light bleeding, cramping, or soreness.
Embryo transfer
A catheter is used to transfer embryos into the uterus, which can cause light bleeding, cramping, or mild discomfort. This is because the embryo can rupture small capillaries in the uterine wall.
First trimester of pregnancy
Spotting or bleeding can occur during the first few weeks of pregnancy. This is more common in IVF pregnancies because the body doesn't produce the hormones needed for pregnancy naturally.
Urinary tract or yeast infection
These infections can cause pink to red spotting or bleeding.
