Yiling Ding - Peeping Through The Veil

I put on a black opaque veil
to block out all the hallucinations.
Within my mind, I look instead
at the truly happy things
and the people who truly
love me.
Sometimes, though, I cannot help
but lift a corner of the headdress
and sneak a peek at your face.
But I always feel so guilty, like
a voyeur, a peeping tom,
even though I know there's
really nothing wrong. Its not like
other people don't look at you too.
But everytime, I feel like I have
sinned against myself - I
know I have.

It is better to forget.
