Description
The next time you feel like complaining that your bed isn't comfortable enough and the room is way too small, just think of those people who had to sleep in boxes. Until the early 19th century, that was a common thing in Europe. And no, it wasn't just the way the poorest people lived - even the nobility had to resort to this unusual sleep situation. If you need at least 8 hours of sleep to feel great the next day, you wouldn't have a great time in preindustrial Europe because they used to sleep in shifts!
