Description
The typical American household discards an estimated 68 pounds of clothing each year. The textile recycling industry accounts for an estimated 17,000 jobs throughout the United States. An estimated 90% of clothing and textiles thrown out in the U.S. during 2011 could have been recycled or reused. Recycling unused or unneeded clothing reduces landfill waste, as well as pollution to the environment. In 2007, an estimated $5.8 billion worth of clothing related donations were made to charity foundations in the United States.
