•Bacteria: Stomach infection with H.Pylori bacteria
•Polyps are small tumours in stomach that may turn into cancer
•Atrophic Gastritis is long standing swelling of internal lining of stomach
•Diet: Smoked & salted food increases the risk of cancer
•Diet low in fruits & vegetables is also a potential reason
•Tobacco: Cigarette smoking doubles the risk of stomach cancer
•Cancer is more common in men & after the age of 50 years
•Obesity: Higher risk of cancer in upper part of stomach in people who are overweight
•Prior stomach operation: Those who have part of their stomach removed for ulcer also more likely to develop cancer after 20-30 years of operation
•Type A Blood group: People with this blood group have higher incidence of stomach cancer for unknown reasons
•Genetic mutations: Higher risk in people who have family history of stomach cancer or certain cancer syndromes
