Description

This was a great trip but very challenging for someone coming from low elevation. We spent several nights at Horseshoe Lake (11,950 ft.) and did a day hike up to Wheeler Peak (13,161 ft.) The trip was hard for me and there were moments when I wondered whether or not I could do it. But....I made it and I was with close friends and family who were patient and encouraged me to make it to our destination. And we met a great friend on the trail who invited us to his cabin in Red River on our last night in New Mexico. Thanks Lee! The weather was a bit unpredictable for early July this year with rain, lightning and sleet every afternoon. And we had a stage 2 fire ban, which mean't no camp fire. All in, we had a great trip with lot's of wildlife and memories to last a lifetime. Will I do it again? Yes, but I will camp at a lower elevation. We all live in the Dallas area and most of us did experience some issues with the altitude. Hope you enjoy the pictures.
