Hurricane Lee, Forecast to Intensify to, Dangerous Category 4 Storm.
NBC reports that Hurricane Lee is forecast to
remain a major hurricane, strengthening to cause
dangerous conditions across the western Atlantic.
According to a September 11 National Hurricane
Center update, the storm is currently about
340 miles north of the northern Leeward Islands.
The storm, moving northwest at about
7 miles per hour, currently has maximum
sustained winds of 120 miles per hour.
NBC reports that there are currently
no coastal watches or warnings in effect. .
In the coming days, the storm is expected to
once again strengthen to a Category 4 storm. .
Lee is then expected to weaken as it passes
between Bermuda and the United States'
East Coast by the end of the week.
The hurricane is not forecast to make landfall in the U.S., however, dangerous conditions from central Florida through Maine are expected to begin on September 11. .
Lee will continue to travel north, carrying those
dangerous conditions to the northeastern U.S.
and Canadian coasts by the middle of the week. .
Last week, Hurricane Lee
strengthened from a tropical depression
to a tropical storm on September 5.
On September 7, Lee shocked forecasters,
strengthening to a major Category 5 storm, before
weakening to a Category 3 by the night of September 8.
NBC reports that the 2023 hurricane season in
the Atlantic has had an above average start,
with 14 named storms and 7 hurricanes so far.
