Description

A vector is an object that has both a magnitude and a direction. Geometrically, we can picture a vector as a directed line segment, whose length is the magnitude of the vector and with an arrow indicating the direction. The direction of the vector is from its tail to its head.

Convert the vector given by the coordinates (1.0, 5.0) into magnitude/angle format. The correct answer is magnitude 5.1, angle 79 degrees. Apply the Pythagorean theorem to find the magnitude. Plug in the numbers to get 5.1.

In mathematics, a set of elements (vectors) in a vector space V is called a basis, or a set of basis vectors, if the vectors are linearly independent and every vector in the vector space is a linear combination of this set. In more general terms, a basis is a linearly independent spanning set.
