Young Ushiwaka (Shanao) still bearing his childhood name, meets renegade warrior monk Benkei for the first time.Benkei made a plegde to steal tachi(swords) from the Heike men during nights.During this first encounter Shanao looses his flute, the only reminder of his mother while forced in exile at a monastry at Mt Kurama where he received some secret tantric instructions and training by an illusive spiritual master he meets during nights on Mt Kurama. Later Benkei would become his most faithfull retainer, following him into death.
