Description
The animation starts with an opening scene of a worm striving to move across a flat board. After coming to a clump of soil he becomes one with his natural environment and continues on moving with the rest of the worms in the ground. But then a couple of screws start to come out of the soil, increasing more and more in number, moving in all directions. On the other hand, another creature arrives that doesn't live in the ground, a dog, sniffing the unknown territory. Digging in the soil, he discovers a grave and begins to excavate faster and stronger. Very soon he is sucked in the ground and buried, without even trying to make a sound. Nevertheless the grave itself is unraveled and uncovers himself from the shack. Once on the surface, the grave opens and a strange live insect comes out of it and begins to move. But as soon as he parts from his grave, the screws activate and put him back in his place by force, filling his grave with blood, and sealing it forever. The grave is then again shoveled back into the deep ground. The finishing scene depicts the worms walking trough the ground.
The worm could symbolise any human being or a creature struggling to make a living. Once he is back on its feet, on a safe place, he becomes part of the mass, and assimilates with the herd. The screws represent the authorities, the establishment or the system itself. They actually control the worms, watching their moves and making sure that everything is under control. The dog is in fact an allusion of an outsider or a stranger, someone who doesn't belong in the mass and sniffs around. Once he is on the verge to discover something important, the authorities immediately take care of him, they eliminate him without a trace. But no matter how strong the system is, what tends to come to light will eventually find its place out in the open. The insect in the grave embodies the vital spirit, which we all preserve deep within, but need to dig deep to find it. This is strongly associated with the source energy that every human has, but has forgotten of it or is not even aware that it exists. The system furthermore makes it disappear, while engaging us with routine obligations and habits. I assume the conclusion is clear in the finishing scene, when the worms continue to walk senselessly on the surface, while deep in it lies the captured vigor, which no one remembers to seek for.
