TURTLE MAKES STARFISH FRIEND DURING RARE KELP FOREST ENCOUNTER

A wildlife photographer captured the rare moment a sea turtle appeared to be making friends with a starfish while gliding through a kelp forest.

Danel Wentzel, an underwater photographer from Cape Town, South Africa, filmed the unusual encounter during a dive in the city's coastal waters.

The footage shows the turtle swimming gracefully through the kelp before passing close to a brightly coloured starfish, creating the illusion of an unlikely underwater friendship.

Danel said: "It's rare. You don't often see turtles in Cape Town.

"Turtles like warm water and Cape Town is cold.

"I have dived in Cape Town for more than 10 years and it is the first time and only time I saw a turtle in the kelp."
