Trucker Jeff - THE HERMIT
14 Views • Nov 07, 2014
Description
His beard is long
unkempt and full of sunshine and wind
He'd never call what lies beneath his
untrimmed finger nails dirt
it's called earth
He is the earth and the sky!
He has no need for electric lights
His block house has a wood stove
and the wood stove cast an evening glow
on his simple meals
His brother faithfully brings him that which he needs
but hasn't got
which ain't much
Corky grows his vegetables for his own table
and the brother takes the rest to town to sell
at some farmers market
Corkey use to sell them himself
but these days the sight of him would scare most folks off
He is the sunlight and the wind!
I seen him today sitting in a lawn chair
wearing winter coveralls
stroking the back of his dog
sitting beside a bushel of corn
looking like Mother Earth made him up
with his wild grey hair
lumber jack frame and that wonderful
yellow streaked, grey beard
I blew my air horn at him and up came that earthy hand
He is the moon and the stars!
they say the war did something to him
and now he ain't quite right
You'd never know it if you stopped
and talked to him and bought a pumpkin
old Corky is living just the way God intended him to
One look at him and anyone would see it right off
He is the last star at sunrise!
