Pros:
Incredible views and landscapes, great food in some places, very clear markings, diversity of nature (landscapes, colours, some animals and weather), great weather most of the time, meeting new people, intense workout, a spiritual experience (like in many other similar places dominated by nature), just around the corner for europeans so no 30 hour flights to get to these places.

Cons: Expensive mostly in Switzerland but Chamonix and Courmayeur as well, very poor breakfast served in some refuges (you need lots of energy especially in the mornings), 8-12 hours of trekking per day so tough on knees and feet depending on how much you carry, not cheap to invest in quality equipment, but you will need it for similar trips.
