Tracey Hickey - you know how it is

You know how it is.
One 'you have a nice laugh, '
one or two or fifty 'that's precious'
and it's done,
just DONE.

Purposely misunderstand,
laugh, joke, shrug it off all you want.
He's done you in, and he knows it
like he knows that the warmth of his cell phone
is really the heat of your blushing face.
But he's too polite to comment
and he doesn't need to.

Forget yourself
forget your pride
forget your bedtime
forget your BOYFRIEND.

The ball is rolling now,
and it's your fault,
and you know it.
And you're stuck
like a fly between the screen and the glass window pane.

But isn't it exciting to be in such a romantic predicament
after all these years of being the smart, stable, sensible, BORING one
who couldn't make this sort of mess
if she wanted to.
