I read your message yesterday
I did not answer right away
Now as I wonder why
I feel my life is just a lie

My old friend
This question you ask
Is so simple
but for me a task

We have not spoken
for so long
You have no conception
of all that went wrong

Those days when we
were so young and free
I want you to remember
that side of me

So when I replied
will get back to you
on that
I realise my life
has become an act

Are you happy
are you well
I wonder if you my friend
have something to tell

It's so easy
to be simple
and just answer
I am fine

If I were to ask
the same of you
I wonder if
you would struggle too

How do I rephrase
such a simple request
Tell me my friend
is this a test

To find out
if this friendship grows
Once we discover
all our woes

Happiness is not so defined
Wellness just a state of mind
Starting over has not been easy
Life is not so bright and breezy

Many friends were lost
along the way
What will it cost
Should I be truthful today

So I shall keep my answer light
and reply how are you doing tonight
And in your answer I shall discover
If you are different from any other
