The Government Hates Encryption

Every time a bad guy uses an encrypted device or app this argument is revived. The fact that terrorists/ evildoers use encrypted communications is a moot point. If encrypted apps were banned then they would use encrypted email. If encrypted email were banned then they could just communicate through the mail. What are they going to do, open and read every letter sent?
