Description
The Nigerians in Ireland took to the streets of Dublin & the Nigerian Embassy to protest in solidarity with Nigerians who were on the streets protesting in Nigeria because of the sudden fuel price hike that was caused by the removal of fuel subsidy on the 1st of January, 2012. The fuel price went from N65 ($0.40; £0.26) to N140($0.86)/N200. This sudden development caused transportation fares, food prices, school fees & etc to double & triple. The hardship of the Nigerian masses who mostly live on less than $2 a day got worst overnight.
P.S. As of the 16th of January, 2012, the Nigerian govt brought down the fuel price from N140 to N97 but the masses are still trying to protest & demand for govt's accountability & transparency. Armies have been deployed to the streets of Lagos, Kaduna & etc where a huge turnout of protesters have continued to protest after the suspension of nation strike by union.
