the Bund

The Bund, located on the banks of the Huangpu River in Huangpu District, Shanghai, is a Chinese historical and cultural district. This used to be the British concession and it is the beginning of the modern city of Shanghai. The Bund is 1.5 kilometers long, with the Huangpu River to the east and the concentration of old Shanghai's financial and foreign trade institutions to the west. There are 52 classical revival buildings with different styles on the Bund. Known as the Bund World Architecture Exhibition Group, it is an important historical site and representative building in modern China and one of Shanghai's landmarks. Opposite the Bund across the river, it is Lujiazui which have become a symbol of China's reform and opening up and a microcosm of Shanghai's modernization.
