Steven L. Mattes - Mr. Lonely

They call him Mr. Lonely
as he stands all alone
with no one else
to call his own
and though he always tries
to keep yo close,
you keep your distance
so his heart stays broke
he wishes on stars
for someone to know
that his heart is pure,
that it's made of gold
and his tears go unseen
in the dead of night
as he'll still be alone
come mornings light
why does he fight,
why does he try,
when it just makes him cry
and wish to die?
If he could fly,
would he fly away?
And if he did,
would you wish that he stayed?
Though he cannot see
what will come to be,
when he stares in the mirror
he stares back at me.
