As the Jammu–Srinagar Highway begins to wind upward, the world quietly shifts. The dense plains of Jammu fade behind, replaced by towering walls of pine and deodar forests rising like silent guardians on both sides of the road. Sunlight darts through the branches, scattering gold across the asphalt, and the cool mountain breeze carries the scent of wet earth and wildflowers.

A little ahead, the landscape opens into the breathtaking stretch near Banihal, where the mountains seem to part just enough to reveal a sweeping valley glowing under the soft Himalayan light. Snow-dusted peaks stand distant yet majestic, their white crowns shining against the deep sky. The best moment arrives near the iconic Jawahar Tunnel, where the last bend suddenly reveals a panorama so dramatic it feels unreal—Kashmir Valley unfurling like a vast emerald cradle, mist settling lightly over fields, and lines of poplar trees standing tall in the gentle breeze. The air turns cooler, crisper, touched with the fragrance of apple orchards and pine.
