Description
The CV (Constant Velocity) boot or gaiter protects the joint in the CV axle of a car. The axle transfers power from the drive shaft at a variable angle. When the protective boot splits or wears, it allows dirt and salt in which wears out the joint prematurely. It also allows water in which can rust the metal.
The boot is filled with grease to lubricate the joint. In addition to the contamination of the joint, when torn or split, the boot will throw the grease onto the underside of the car. Once the CV joint has been removed it can be rebooted or replaced. We reboot our axles if we can because the OEM axle is of higher quality than a replacement.
