Description

Spem in alium is a motet for forty independent voices, composed by Thomas Tallis (c.1505 - 1585).

We do not know the exact date of composition of this motet, nor its destination. Although in Latin, it is not a usable coin in an ordinary religious ceremony.

The arrangement envisaged by the composer could be 8 groups of 5 singers (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Tenor, Baritone) around an octagon where the listeners would be.

The exercise was to reproduce an acceptable porridge in stereo and with sampler sounds on 40 different tracks.

I am not satisfied. On the one hand my samples have too much reverberation, grain, breath and the attacks are artificial. On the other hand the dynamics of the amplitudes between the groups is not sufficiently managed which reduces certain melodic effects.
