LYRICS

Let's go down now and watch the riverboats, holding hands and talking about what our dreams just might be.

I'd love to have you stay with me for a while. Watch the fishes swimming, the wind blows through your hair silently.

Let's go on down now to the river, lady. I would love to have you stay with me forever and then maybe...

We could go on down now. Be my river, lady. I would love to have you stay with me forever...

Let's shed our clothing, so we can have a swim. The water's chilly but there's no other place that I'd rather be.

I'd love to have you stay with me for a while. Watch our bodies swimming, the wind blows through the air silently.

Let's go on down now to the river, lady. I would love to have you stay with me forever and then maybe...

We could go on down now. Be my river, lady. I would love to have you stay with me forever...

Let's go down. Let's go down...

Let's go on down now to the Riverlady. I would love to have you stay with me forever and then maybe...

We could go on down now. Be my Riverlady. I would love to have you stay with me forever...

This track begins with a sparse arrangement that consists of electric piano, bass, shaker, and drums. The vocal enters in the ninth bar and delivers the first verse. The first chorus features the entrance of a live Stratocaster guitar, as the hi-hat and shaker cease playing, so the ride cymbal, sleigh bells, and triangle can fill the void. After the first chorus is over, a clarinet and bassoon enter the mix and play a simple harmonic line to further compliment the entrance of the strings in the second verse. After the second chorus, the song modulates to the key of E and the orchestral instruments begin playing some very active contrapuntal lines. After the vocal sings its final note, a horn section enters and plays the melody of chorus. The piece then ends.

The lower case and Upper case spelling of the song's hook is intentional and holds the key to the true meaning of the lyrics.
