Somalia: Pirates announce retirement

Al Qarra - Somali pirate kingpin Mohamed Abdi Hassan has announced his retirement. He was known for taking spectacular risks and making bold captures. During his eight years of work, Hassan amassed millions of dollars.

“These young people have wisely decided to abandon the work they’ve been doing for years. Though they weren’t used to conflict, they found the courage to leave piracy behind. This has been an issue for some time.”

Many others have decided to stop their pirate activities as well. All have remained quiet about their reasons for quitting.
