Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG): Also known as “the sleeve”. This surgery once used as a first stage surgery in patients with a very high BMI, has now become a stand alone surgery for patients wanting a procedure less invasive than the gastric bypass, yet they don’t want to or cannot commit to fills and frequent follow up care that the Lap Band requires. This surgical weight loss procedure is used for severely obese individuals weighing more than 100 lbs over their ideal body weight. The procedure has great promise.
