walk alone
Darkness enfolds me
Isolation becomes me
I walk alone.
On the rough hard sands
Of blotted darkness
I walk alone.
Watching -
as others pick their path.
I walk alone
embracing the sweet night
As my bruised soul emerges
From its lonely walled home, free.
As the darkness hides identity, obligation
And allows for unobtrusive observation
to admire the eternal power
Of the elemental forces
Which suffuse me with strength and purpose?
And fill me with a fleeting moment -
of peace and yearning.
The sand softens and I labour.
Reluctantly everything returns
behind the walls
And the artificial light
Calls me back into the reality
Of my lonely existence
I wait for the next time
I can watch the sky
and be at peace.
I walk alone.
