The warmth of the day rises
Its light promises hope to the previous days survivors
What does it mean to strive
To be alive?

To awaken with purpose
And walk, one foot in front of the other
In a perfect purposeful onward stride
To be alive?

To arise each morning by the beckoning sun
Meeting demands of the daily grind
Thinking and planning without a clouded mind
To be alive?

To kiss my children
And rising, raise my arms to the sun
Hoping for the damaged heart to come undone
More than just existing when the day is done
