Description

I ached,
If you must know,
For all these years,
You packed
Then hitched a ride,
Temptation was
Formidable,
Sadly,
I was not up to it.
I would not do.
I held you long
That final night,
I sensed
When you looked
Through the panes
As if the fallen snow
Was something new,
And needed to be seen
Still, before dawn.
I have
And always will,
Make love
If only in my dreams
And, yes, if you must know
It is your eyes that watch,
And I was happy
In denial,
And would have gone
with courage to my grave,
Both hands
In prayer
But not holding yours.
And, when you called
My heartbeat ceased,
My limbs,
Remembering your touch
Grew cold as ice,
The softness
Of myself,
The zones
That once were yours
Felt odd,
But there was sound,
The sound of Mozart,
Figaro,
And tears,
Held in for
Thirteen years
Broke free,
I knew there would be more.
Can this be true,
And will you come
And meet me at
My door,
The way you left,
Expecting kisses
And spaghetti,
Basil sauce.
I cannot promise
What will be
Except to say
That you have left
Just in your mind,
And that for me
It will be bliss
To feed you
Basil and green tea.
