Description

The name Salkantay salka comes from a Quechua word meaning "wild", Uncivilized, and was recorded in 1583. The name is often translated as "Mountain Wild". Directly north of the Machu Picchu Salkantay this, which is at the end of the ridge that extends down from this mountain. View from Machu Picchu, the Southern Cross is on the top of Salkantay when in its highest point in the sky during the rainy season. The Incas associated this alignment with the concept of rain and fertility and Salkantay considered to be one of the main gods controlled the climate and the fertility of the western region of Cusco.
