Sailing By (Ronald Binge)
Description
Ronald Binge (15th July 1910 - 6th September 1979) was a British composer and arranger of light music. He was responsible for creating the famous "Mantovani's Cascading strings" sound. I had the pleasure of working for him as his copyist. "Sailing By" is a short piece of light music composed by Ronald Binge in 1963, which is used before the late Shipping Forecast on BBC Radio 4. A slow waltz, the piece uses a repetitive ABABC structure and features a distinctive rising and falling woodwind arpeggio.
