S500 QUADCOPTER TEST: CHEAP BUILD
Description
S500 QUAD TEST: CHEAP BUILD
My goal: to build a quadcopter “CHEAP”
I have been flying RC aerobatic planes for a few years now. I have always believed that you must stay clear of all this cheap China electronics. I have been converted… I LOVE CHINA!!!
I started with http://hobbyking.com and found that they had everything to build my quad-copter from scratch. Hobby King is known as the China distributor for the RC enthusiast. I personally have never bought from them. I always use the best electronics for my RC Planes as I only fly 3D Freestyle… which can be very aggressive, demanding, and sometimes dangerous… which is why I love it! I would never take a chance on the most important part of RC flying.
FRAME: If you do a search on Ebay for Quadcopter frames you will find that they range from $700 to $30. I bought my frame on EBay for $28.00.
MOTORS: $80.00 spent on T Motor Air Gear 2213/920kv which comes with (4) motors, (4) 20 amp ESC and (4) T9545 propellers. This combination is NOT recommended for the S500 but perfect for the 250 class. I found out these motors are not big enough for my application. I will be changing this out soon. FLIGHT CONTROLER: I decided to go with one of the most expensive flight controllers on the market. Not just because of my experience with RC planes, but because I built this for my 6 year old son Aiden. I figured this NAZA M V2 with GPS would save me money in the long run. It has the feature fail safe GO HOME capabilities. If you lose your orientation, all you need to do is hit a switch and the quadcopter returns home. Very nice for beginners! Allen at KDS USA models help me out with this option. Located in South Houston I was able to swing by and pick it up. Not only did he have this in stock but he took the time to explain how this GPS systems works. He went over the radio set up and everything. Very knowledgeable and helpful guys over at KDS. http://www.kdsmodelsusa.com/
I spent about $300… You can pick up a flight controller on Ebay or Hobby King for a fraction of that price $30/maybe?
I will be adding FPV soon… that should make it easy for filming.
