Roland CS-10EM Binaural Mics with iPhone

A demo of the Roland CS-10EM Binaural Microphones and Earphones; mostly on cars and airplanes. I know I said "headphones" and should have said "earphones". Headphones recommended for binaural effect.You will perceive the auditory image as coming from outside your head in three dimensional space, as if you were actually there in real life.

Recorded in a double-system, iPhone & Tascam iXJ2 for audio portion and Canon S110 for video portion. Then audio and video were synced in post. The Canon audio was the scratch track.

The Tascam iXJ2 provided plug-in power to the Roland CS-10EM binaural microphones. The Roland does *not* need a cable adapter. The Roland microphone cable (red) has a TRS (3-pin) connection and plugs into the Tascam iXJ2. You have to set the Plug In Power switch to the "ON" position. You can plug in a headset into an iPhone that has a TRRS (4-pin) connection.

A cable adapter will not work with the iPhone alone. The iPhone does not provide plug in power, typically 5 volts, to power small microphones. I tested it with two iPhones and two cable adapters; TRRS (4-pin) connected to 3.5mm to iPhone, and they did NOT work. You would have to use a Tascam iXJ2, to power the Roland CS-10EM binaural microphones. However, I believe some GoPros do. The Tascam iXJ2 is such an underrated device and it performs so many functions.

I believe the Tascam app is a very functional app; however, the user interface/user experience is not very good. There's a learning curve, that is very similar to high-end digital audio recorders. Hitting the record button twice, to record, has screwed me up a few times. There are some YouTubers that would use these mics to record videos for Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR). As well as recording nature soundscapes for Stereoscopic 3D audio.

For an affordable directional (shotgun) microphone, I think the Rode NTG-2 is a great shotgun mic, if you can find it second-hand. I payed around $150 on eBay. However, I had to wait quite a few months, until I found one selling at that price. The software Audacity, can easlity remove noise (hiss). Some people prefer the Audio-Technica AT897.
