Robbie Squires - The Highwayman
155 Views • Oct 29, 2014
Description
A yesterday drifter that follows the wind
Wherever it may chime
Upon horseback, our rebel divides the night
Washing away your fear, the daylight
Never to sense defeat, The Highwayman is always awake
A man of the night some may say
Often bathing in the nearby lake
His tangled hair rests on his shoulders
The Highwayman against the world
He is his own soldier
The Highwayman leads an endless life
Youthful from those who have befallen to his knife
A loner with his own time and day
Two things he does, makes the pain wash away
Worn, battered, and beaten; The Highwayman is not down
And when this one is replaced, he will still be around
Drifting into the sky; floating across the sea
Small steps up the Black Mountainside
Is how The Highwayman built his legacy
You cannot see him, but he can very well see you
With pistol and swords at his sides
The kind of outlaw that was abused
I was The Highwayman, many years ago
And in the time that was lost and found
Few weaknesses I did show
But my soul grew old, so I passed on the torch
To a young man like I once was
And then his time came and again and again
The job was pushed ahead
But no lives were lost in our crusade
The Highwayman cannot trust you
And you cannot trust him
He only want to be on the side that wins
But know The Highwayman can always carry on
He will breathe his own free air
And travel the road he belongs
